The work moves between sculpture and painting, with material and process providing the continuity between otherwise distinct bodies of work. Volcanic stone, stone dust, recycled metal, oil, resin and pigment are repeatedly carved, accumulated, buried, excavated, abraded and returned to new forms. Much of the material originates in the volcanic landscape of Nevis. Stone removed through carving is retained as dust and reintroduced into subsequent works, allowing subtraction and accumulation to operate as part of the same material cycle. Across the practice, surfaces and forms develop through physical processes rather than from predetermined images. The works range carved stone vessels and hollow forms to constructed vertical and biomorphic sculptures, smaller objects, fragments and paintings. Although their scale and structure vary, they share an interest in material transformation, geological formation and the uncertain boundary between found matter and fabricated object. The works shown here represent a selection from the series. Images incorporating the body are included to indicate scale and physical relationship. Further works, detailed documentation and current availability are available directly from the studio.
